hello again i have classed these as Anomia ephippium - but as the muscle scars are not clear it is hard to tell. also the paler flat shell i was guessing as the lower right valve but is it too pale? thank you. m watson

Discussions:

  • The shells (1a & 1b) look rather thick for Anomia, and the bottom one (2a & 2b) definitely has an oyster-like ligament area. Ostrea edulis is the standard European oyster, though various oyster species are widely introduced and might be present. ... Dr. David C.

  • I agree with David, these look like very worn specimens of _Ostrea edulis_.
The ligament area often looks odd as the wear makes several layers visible at once. ...Liz S.
